Wyoming Surveyors and Engineers Practice Act

The Wyoming State Board of Surveying, Land Engineering is the state agency that regulates surveying in Wyoming. Adopted rules to govern surveyor licensing requirements for all licensed professionals who perform surveys or land engineering services within the state.

These regulations are intended to protect public safety by ensuring that only qualified individuals practice their profession. In addition, these regulations provide a means for consumers to verify whether an individual performing professional work on their property is properly licensed.

Surveyor Licensing Requirements:

All persons practicing as registered engineers must be licensed under this chapter unless exempt from licensure pursuant to Wyo. All other professions regulated by the board require registration with the board prior to engaging in any activity requiring certification as a Professional Engineer. A person may not engage in the practice of surveying without being duly registered with the board.

A license shall expire one year after it was issued except where otherwise provided by law. Any renewal application filed more than six months before expiration date will automatically renew the license upon approval.

Renewal applications received less than 6 months before expiration date will be considered at time of issuance if no objection is made within 30 days following receipt of notice of intent to issue. If objections are raised during the period between filing and issuance, then the applicant's name will remain on file until final action is taken.

An expired license cannot be renewed nor can a new license be obtained until the previous license expires.

A licensee whose license has been suspended or revoked may apply for reinstatement within two years of suspension or revocation. Reinstatement requires payment of fees and submission of evidence satisfactory to the board showing rehabilitation. Upon successful completion of probationary status, the license will be reinstated subject to compliance with continuing education requirements.

Any person convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude committed while holding a valid license shall have his/her license immediately cancelled. Such conviction includes but is not limited to convictions for embezzlement, theft, fraud, bribery, perjury, false swearing, and falsification of records etc.

The board reserves the right to deny any request for a license based on its determination that the applicant does not meet the minimum standards established by statute or rule.

In addition, the board may refuse to grant a license to applicants who do not comply with statutory provisions regarding educational qualifications, examination procedures, character references, criminal history record checks, financial responsibility, etc.

 Licensure Fees:

An annual license fee per license plus applicable taxes is payable annually to maintain each license. This amount covers all costs associated with licensing including processing, printing, mailing, telephone charges, postage, courier service, etc.
